Really good art, action and facial expresstions. Story was also good, but i did think it went a bit over the top near the end. The best part of the story for me was sonja's origin story thats spaced throughout the book. As for sonja being a strong female character, i don't think she is, throughout the comic shes basically a pawn, being used by the gods, fueled by revenge. I thought she would be more like the character conan, looking for adventure, full of curiosity, a thinker and a fighter, a free spirit. So even though i enjoyed red sonja, i think she lacks in character. Also, i just found out that red sonja has been rebooted again but with a more realistic story and world, so i may check this new sonja out. This is set in a pre-established world created by a great man 90 years ago. this story and set up seems to forget that. Even being an original adaption respect must be honored to the world created by another. The previous 18 issues felt a touch off as well but close enough to Howard's world that it was not off putting, this collection dials it up to 11 and really does break my immersion as a long time Howard and Conan fanatic. So if you have no baggage as a Howard fan, you will LOVE this She-Devil with a Sword series by Dynamite, highly, highly recommend. If you are like me and are a long time lover of Howard's work then just be prepared that this may not feel akin to his work, or even Dark Horse's fantastic Conan run that was made parallel-- just not in connection --to this. In closing: even with the slightly jarring nature in connection to Howard's world this She-Devil with a Sword is a must for any comic book fan!!
